India is among one of the fastest-growing
economy of the world and it is supposed to become a $5.0 trillion economy very
soon. Businesses are prospering here. The income of people is on the rise.
People are living a better life than before. But despite all these facts, there
is some bitter fact which needs to be recognized- the rise in the
socio-economic gap and income inequality. It is right that the income of people
has increased over the last few years but if we go by a recent report that says
that India’s 90% wealth is in the hand of 1% of the population. This shows the
income disparity in India. Millions of people are still living under poverty in
India.
The best way to break this cycle of poverty is
through education. It helps overcome inequality, provides development, speeds
up social transformations, etc. Government is doing its part to reduce this
perennial poverty and so far, millions have been brought out of it. But is the
responsibility of corporates also to play their part in the upliftment of downtrodden
of society.
CSRL, Center for Social
Responsibility and Leadership, is a registered society in Delhi that works in
the fields of education for poor and underprivileged students. Their focus is
on those students who are talented but lack financial freedom to unleash their
talent. CSRL provides a platform for these children to get financial help from
corporates under corporate social responsibility in India as
enacted by the government.
There are various dimensions of CSRL:
- CSR Project Execution
- CSR Advocacy
- CSR Publications
- CSR Programs
Through their Super 30 program, they aim to
give something back to society, nurturing talent, providing support to
underprivileged through education, and make them able to compete for the prestigious
colleges and universities in India. They are fulfilling social responsibility in India to uplift the underprivileged.
